Yorkshire Life Aquatic is Lucy Meredith and Zoe Parker, who first joined forces in 2013 after discovering a mutual love of synchronised swimming and mermaids as well as a concern for the state of the oceans and the environment.
We use art and performance to promote positive body image, health and well-being to the public. We also use ‘art-ivism’ to highlight environmental issues focusing on the oceans and aquatic mammals. Our performances are unique and we pride ourselves in making work that is distinctive and brave as well as entertaining. We have a dry land synchronised swimming dance show, a water based team ( Bramley Mermaids) and run numerous workshops on land and in water with real mermaids! We are soon to launch phase 2 of the The Human Aquarium. You can find out more here.
Described by audiences as uplifting, and quirky, Yorkshire Life Aquatic’s work has wide appeal and is suitable for all ages. We specialise in immersive, interactive experiences that bring you closer to the ‘world of the sea’…

LUCY MEREDITH
I am a professional actor with over 20 years experience working across theatre, film and TV. Since graduating from Bretton Hall with BA (Hons) in Drama, I have performed at venues such as York Theatre Royal and West Yorkshire Playhouse and can currently be seen in Sci-fi series Chronicles of Syntax. I have written, acted and directed for arts events such Development Lab, Light Night and Emerge festival as a solo performer and though collaborations with other artists. I used to be a competitive synchronised swimmer for over six years and part of the Sussex County championship team. I currently perform as part of a Masters Synchro team nationally. I wanted to combine my love for synchronised swimming and performance, and this was a catalyst for YLA. I also champion environmental action working with Climate Action Leeds towards Leeds’ net zero aims for the 2030’s
ZOE PARKER
As a producer, choreographer, and performer, I set up Yorkshire Life Aquatic with Lucy in 2013 because I loved the freedom that combining water and dance brings. As well as YLA, I love creating mass participation choreographies, and other participatory/ immersive art installations. I co-created Fragile with the Institute for Crazy Dancing, founded Tea & Tolerance (roaming conversation Tea Trolley). The roots of my practise is movement, having graduated from Northern School of Contemporary Dance (1993).I went on to work with communities in various guises including for Yorkshire Dance, Northern Ballet & Leeds College of Music, choreographing numerous large scale musicals. Over the years, I have collaborated on many inclusive & therapeutic dance movement projects regionally & internationally.
