  • Bramley Mermaids Club

Thanks to funding from Bramley Community First ,we have partnered with Bramley Baths and have held the first class of our Mermaid Exercise course. This happens durin Ladies only swim on a Monday night at Bramley Baths.

We had a lovely and very enthusiastic group of ladies attend, some new and some who had been to our taster classes last summer. We started off with a bit of ‘Bunny Breaststroke’ to the sounds of the Andrews Sisters to warm up then went on to learning sculling and the dreaded ‘Egg beater’! (a treading water technique used by Synchronised Swimmers). Everyone picked up the moves at such a fast pace that by the end of the session we had put together a routine involving Flamingos and Swans (our own interpretations of course 🙂

It was a really great session and we were so impressed with the groups skills we will have to get some harder moves together for next week to keep them on (or off) their toes! It was also nice to have a chill and a chat in the Steam Room at the Baths after! Well we did deserve it!! Looking forward to next week!!

  • Bathing Beauties Festival

After an intensive week of rehearsals working on new materials and tweaking bit of the routine with help from our lovely guest mentor Sally Marie. The mermaids ventured out of Yorkshire to perform at Bathing Beauties festival in Lincolnshire. We did three shows over the Saturday of the festival, The first on the prom in Sutton on Sea then on the Beach in Mablethorpe.

It was a really lovely day and one lady enjoyed our performance so much she and her dog cycled along the coast from Sutton to Mablethorpe so she could watch us perform again! We got some lovely feedback from audience members including “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life!”, “It reminded me of that Esther Williams” and “That was absolutely fantastic!” It was a great atmosphere and the first chance we have had to perform on an actual beach.

We must say a big thank you to everyone who came to watch and support us and especially to local radio station Coastal FM for letting us use their PA. Here is a picture of us with the Coastal FM team.
